I was confused about the number of and titles of the Darwin movies to hit the big screen in 2009. It appears, according to The Internet Movie Database, that there will be two. There is Evolution’s Captain, based on the book of the same name by Peter Nichols, revolving around Darwin and Fitzroy’s relationship aboard HMS Beagle. Search the database for The Untitled Charles Darwin Project and Annie’s Box, and you come up with Origin, which will be based on the book Annie’s Box: Charles Darwin, His Daughter and Human Evolution by Randal Keynes, revolving around Darwin’s home life amidst researching and writing his evolutionary works.
We can only hope there will also be a movie based on Alfred Russel Wallace’s life… yes, Darwin may have had an unfortunate encounter with three beetles, but he did not have a ship burn down at sea with all his specimens and notes. That would make for a good scene!
